29.11.2023, Tashkent, Uzbekistan - The main agenda items at the Forum covered how the company works with suppliers and discussions on the key growth areas in the Uzbek market.

Korzinka, the largest retail chain in Uzbekistan, held its first supplier Forum.

The top-management of the company spoke at the event, sharing key indicators from the past year, discussing market growth areas, interaction with suppliers and the active development of the supply chain.

Suppliers are key to success

Suppliers are important partners for any retail business, since they directly influence the company’s sales performance and competitiveness.

Currently, Korzinka has 890 suppliers, many of which have been working since the founding of the company.

Throughout this time, the company has been building a comprehensive partnership process. the terms of cooperation, assortment and promotion programmes are thoroughly worked out with each of the suppliers.

This exact approach has allowed the company to successfully grow and develop for the last 27 years.

“Mutually beneficial cooperation with partners and suppliers is one of the company’s priorities. We understand the importance of joint supply planning with them to ensure a high level of availability of goods on the shelves of Korzinki stores. We are grateful to our partners for their cooperation and open feedback, which every day allows us getting better and better", – said Zafar Khashimov, Founder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Korzinka supermarket chain.

Uzbekistan maintains rapid rates of economic development

Korzinka is the leader in the modern food retail market in Uzbekistan. The company has been in the market for 27 years, has 126 stores in 11 regions of the country and trade turnover in the first nine months of 2023 amounted to 5.6 trillion soums.

Since 2020, thanks to investment from the EBRD and it’s new business strategy, the company has accelerated its growth – doubling the number of stores and the network’s turnover in two years.

Today Korzinka has:

  • 195,000 customers daily

  • more than 1.4 million active loyalty program participants

  • more than 487,000 active users of its mobile application monthly

  • more than 12,000 different products on sale

  • 890 suppliers

  • more than 100 business partners

  • over 9,000 team members

In 2023, the company conducted a study to assess market capacity through to 2027. Malik Karimov, the Marketing Director, shared the results during the event.

He noted that Uzbekistan maintains a very rapid pace of economic development. For example, the real economic growth of Uzbekistan in 2023 is predicted by the World Bank at 5.5%, and by the EBRD - 6.5%.

Over the past two years, per capita GDP growth has returned to pre-pandemic levels of 3.5%.

“Overall, Uzbekistan maintains a very rapid pace of economic development, thanks to a large and dynamic workforce, the capacity of the domestic market, the diversification of manufacturing industries and progress in market reforms. All this opens up great opportunities for us and the entire retail industry, allowing us to grow and expand together”, – said Mr. Karimov.

How Korzinka works with suppliers

Sherzod Makhmudov, Korzinka’s Commercial Director, spoke about improving interaction with suppliers. He noted that in recent months the company had been actively working to improve the quality of service, joint planning, and implementation of electronic document management (EDI).

Joint planning, he noted, increases turnover by 18% and reduces costs by 20%. But to be effective, it is necessary to work together - study together, monitor, analyse the results and adjust forecasts.

He also spoke about the forthcoming transition to electronic data exchange.

“In the near future we will introduce electronic data interchange (EDI) in our work with suppliers. This will not only reduce costs, but also speed up the receipt of payments, since we will now see all invoices instantly. In addition, it will help eliminate manual entry errors”, — said Mr. Makhmudov.

New Distribution Centre

Today, Korzinka has six distribution centres (DC) with a total area of 29,000 m2. The new DC will be built on 45,000 m2.

All of Korzinka’s distribution centres have implemented the SAP EWM warehouse accounting system; central shipments to stores now account for 60% of the total volume. Every day, Korzinka’s distribution centres receive and distribute 1,200 pallets.

“We plan to invest more than $60 million for the construction of a new Class A DC and the development of our own transport facility. This will allow us to group goods in one delivery, regularly and on time. The introduction of cutting edge IT technologies will increase warehouse productivity by 50%”, — noted Mansur Tillaboev, Supply Chain Director.

Among the advantages of the future DC:

  • Multi-temperature facility will allow consolidation of all product categories in one DC.

  • The DC capacity will be up to 40,000 pallet spaces, with the ability to hold a buffer stock of goods and minimise out of stock issues in stores.

  • Use of modern warehouse equipment will increase cargo processing productivity threefold.

At the end of the Forum, the speakers answered questions and then talked directly with the participants.
